As part of its 200th anniversary celebrations, the insurer Gebäudeversicherung Luzern invited all 6'200 of Canton Lucerne’s volunteer firefighters to a day of thanksgiving.

In all, some 10'000 people responded, making their way to Emmen military airfield. Parents and their children were enthralled by the presentations of all the blue-light organisations and the army. Highlights included a fire-fighting Super Puma helicopter in action and the rescue of a victim of a traffic accident involving the deployment of a Rega helicopter.
 

The attendees enjoyed a wide range of delicacies in the various festival marquees.
